Canada Wide Bike Ride for Nicaragua

At our April 14 meeting, David Knoppert will outline his progress at riding his stationary bike 7,176 km – the same distance as riding from coast to coast across Canada.  His goal is to raise awareness and funds to support medical, community and education projects carried out by the group COMMIT to Nicaragua. COMMIT is a team of dedicated volunteers from Southwestern Ontario working under the umbrella of the Rotary Club of Stratford Charitable Foundation.  David’s team's mandate is to provide long-term support to some of the poorest villages in Nicaragua, with a focus on medical clinics, clean drinking water, sanitation, ecofriendly stoves, and sustainable agriculture as well as educational and social support.

A retired Neonatal Pharmacist from London, ON and a member of the Rotary Club of London Hyde Park, David is on the COMMIT Executive and an avid fund raiser for the group, having previously hit over 6,500 golf balls in 12 hours in 2019. Starting on October 1, 2020 David has been riding 40 km per day, 25 days each month on his stationary bike. At 1000 km per month, he will complete his ride in 7 months in April 2021.
