THE FOLLOWING IS SPEECH BY ERIC JONES WEDNESDAY 21AUGUST24

For those of you who are not familiar with Doug and Else’s background in Rotary, I’ll just give a quick summary.

Doug is by far our longest serving Rotarian. He was a member of the Rotary Club of St. Catharines for 6 to 7 years prior to our own Lakeshore Club’s founding and, of course, is a Charter member of our Club for 38 years (45 years in total).

The list of Doug’s contributions to the Club and the Community over the years is enormous — from participating in our original Jail & Bail and Grape & Wine Pancake breakfast fundraisers (both way before my time), to creating our Lobsterfest burners, to putting up the original Charles Ansel Park fence at Lock 1, to constructing all the shelving units in our locker, to always being the first with a generous contribution for any project our Club has ever undertaken.
Else was always there right beside Doug in his endeavours, in particular during Lobsterfest Saturday set-up and then washing everything in sight (the dreaded Sunday morning after) at tear-down.

You never had to ask Doug and Else to help with any project or event, they were always right there as long as they have been able.
So now it gives me great pleasure to present Doug and Else with:
·      A plaque to be mounted on their selected rock at the Garden “In recognition of Doug and Else Weeks 45 Years of Service to Rotary”
·      Through the magic of that great Canadian invention – Duct Tape – 8 x 10 photos of the plaque attached to the Rock and of Doug and Else actually sitting on their Rock. With their permission, I will pass these around for you to look at momentarily.

Thank you again for coming out this evening.

By the way, Mr Mikes is picking up Doug and Else’s tab tonight as congratulations from the management and staff here, so let’s give them a round of applause.
